Black History Month February is Black History Month, and the Second Graders are learning about some important black Americans who have made a difference in our world. This week we learned about George Washington Carver and were amazed about how many ways he used peanut butter and sweet potatoes in different products. Did you know that not only was George Washington Carver a scientist, but he was also an artist?. Louis Latimer, an inventor, and Mae Jemison, the first African American scientist, also made important contributions to our world. We also listened to Henry's Freedom Box and imagined how difficult and frightening it would be if we were upside down in a box while hoping to make it to a free state without being discovered. We admire the bravery of Harriet Tubman who risked her life to help slaves escape to freedom by way of the Underground Railroad. 100th Day of School With the 100th day of school and Valentine's Day both happening on February 1

Students whose siblings completed a project were excited to show the projects to their classmates. Only 4 more years and the Second Graders will participating! Parent Visitation Day Last Friday the Second Graders welcomed their parents and shared some of the things they learned when doing our ocean unit. Parents, we appreciate that you took time away from your busy schedules to join us. Your children loving having you in the classroom. The session began with a psalm of praise to God for the ocean and all of the creatures in it.

Second Graders decorated placemats that will be sent to Meals on Wheels.  How is our cursive writing?  The Second Graders have learned all of the lower case cursive letters and enjoy practicing on the Glow Draw app. Here we are practicing our capital letters. Recess With all kinds of crazy weather this month, we have been creative with our recess space. When it is too cold to go outside the students often go to the MPR or the gym and find fun things to play. Below, the  boys enjoy using the Kennex to make tops ! If the recess yard is too wet, we sometimes make use of the patio to get some fresh air and play ball with our friends.                       Sacrament of Reconciliation Our Sacrament of Reconciliation Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, February 26th, at 7:00 p.m. Eight Second Graders and one Third Grader
