Science: Simple Machines In science class the students have been learning about the six types of simple machines: screw, lever, inclined plane, wedge, wheel and axle, and pulley. After learning about inclined planes, the students were given the challenge to create an inclined plane so that a car at the top of a box could travel down the ramp and continue rolling.                               First the students discussed what classroom materials to use to create the inclined plane. Next, they got to work making their ramps and made sure that the car successfully traveled down the ramp. Community Time Service Project The students gathered in their family groups to make decorative Christmas placemats that will be delivered to those receiving Meals on Wheels. The torn paper art allowed even the youngest students to participate. Pen Pal Cards Our pen pals celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation, so along with our prayers for them, we sent cards offering them our good wishes and congratulations. Recess Fun on a Snowy Day Although it was only snow flurries that fell, it was enough to fill the air with lots of excitement as the student did their best to catch snowflakes. School Service Project for Advent OPERATION ADVENT Throughout the Advent season, Holy Child will be collecting materials to support The Providence Center. The Providence Center provides educational services to the community in the Fairhill section of Philadelphia.
