Valentines for Pen Pals
                           


The Second Graders put their creative talents to work creating valentine card for their pen pals in  Second Grade at Holy Child School at Rosemont.


They also enjoyed putting together the Valentine puzzle they received from their pen pals.
                              


Science Fair
We spent some time at the Science Fair looking at the many fascinating projects. Students whose siblings completed a project were excited to show the projects to their classmates. Only 4 more years and the Second Graders will participating!





Parent Visitation Day

Last Friday the Second Graders welcomed their parents and shared some of the things they learned when doing our ocean unit. Parents, we appreciate that you took time away from your busy schedules to join us. Your children loving having you in the classroom.

The session began with a psalm of praise to God for the ocean and all of the creatures in it. Each student had one (or more) letter of the alphabet and wrote a sentence praising God for a specific creature.
                 

Next, the students worked with their parents on a few activities: completing a Venn diagram that compared whales with fish, and writing an adjective, verb, and adverb to describe a particular ocean creature.











The Second Graders also took the opportunity to share their Adobe Spark video presentation they created with a partner about a particular whale.




Student of the Week

Our Student of the Week, Colin, shows a drawing in the booklet that his classmates made for him.

Science: Simple Machines In science class the students have been learning about the six types of simple machines: screw, lever, inclined plane, wedge, wheel and axle, and pulley. After learning about inclined planes, the students were given the challenge to create an inclined plane so that a car at the top of a box could travel down the ramp and continue rolling.                               First the students discussed what classroom materials to use to create the inclined plane. Next, they got to work making their ramps and made sure that the car successfully traveled down the ramp. Healthy Living: Touching Safety Rules The Second Graders were all ears as Ms. Jester taught about the touching safety rules. The boys chanted, 'Say no, get away! Tell someone, tell someone!" Students named people in their families, school, and community who are trusted adults and could lend a helping hand. CommunityTime This week the Second Graders showed their creativity when decorating snack bags. The Early Childhood students will fill the bags, and they will be distributed to the needy.
