                                                       Celebrating St. Teresa's Day

Ready to play!

The month of October brings two special dates celebrated by each Holy Child School:

Saturday, October 13, 2018 is the Founding Day of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus 1846 in Derby, England.

Monday, October 15, 2018 is Feast of St. Teresa of Avila when the sisters first celebrated Mass as a community of sisters.

The Lower School students celebrated these special dates by dividing into teams and playing special games with their classmates.

Lankenau Health Education Center

Grades 1, 2, and 3 visited the Health Education Center at Lankenau Hospital. The Second and third Graders participated in the Be a Buddy, Not a Bully program.


    The students were very attentive as they learned about the human body from Pandora.



In the Be a Buddy program, the students learned to evaluate what is happening in a situation,                     


 and what to do if they are the target of bullying. 

The focus was also on how to be a friend in order to stop bullying. The students acted out several scenarios and decided how to handle each situation.


                          
Back at HCA, the students completed several activities to review what they had learned at the Health Education Center.

 Student of the Week

Our Student of the Week receives a standing ovation from her classmates to show how much they appreciate her.

  Enchanted Forest Book Fair

The Grand Opening Family Event is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28th.

Tuesday, Oct. 23: Dress Down Day and Bake Sale to fund Alzheimer Research
 $1.00 Donation is due Oct. 22.

               
Sunday, October 28, from 3 to 5 p.m.: Book Fair Family Kickoff Event
Wednesday, October 31: Halloween Mission Party: Parade at 8:15 a.m. Dismissal is at 12:00 p.m.
No lunch will be served and there is no HCA+ that day. Please look for more specific details in the your child's homework folder next weekend.

 Tuesday, November 6: Inservice Day for Teachers,  No School for Students

Science: Simple Machines In science class the students have been learning about the six types of simple machines: screw, lever, inclined plane, wedge, wheel and axle, and pulley. After learning about inclined planes, the students were given the challenge to create an inclined plane so that a car at the top of a box could travel down the ramp and continue rolling.                               First the students discussed what classroom materials to use to create the inclined plane. Next, they got to work making their ramps and made sure that the car successfully traveled down the ramp. Healthy Living: Touching Safety Rules The Second Graders were all ears as Ms. Jester taught about the touching safety rules. The boys chanted, 'Say no, get away! Tell someone, tell someone!" Students named people in their families, school, and community who are trusted adults and could lend a helping hand. CommunityTime This week the Second Graders showed their creativity when decorating snack bags. The Early Childhood students will fill the bags, and they will be distributed to the needy.
